Police want to trace this grinning girl in connection with the theft of a handbag with £4,000 inside.

A 62-year-old woman was going to deposit the cash at her bank and got off at Havant bus station.

But she realised she had left her bag, containing the money, on the number 23 bus.

She contacted the bus company who viewed the CCTV and saw a woman going through the bag and then taking it when she got off the bus at Leigh Park at 9.57am on Monday.

Police have now released these CCTV images in a bid to trace the girl.

The victim, from Havant, said the handbag contained £4,000 and police said they have no reason to disbelieve her.

As well as the cash, the handbag contained credit cards and personal items.

Sarah Oakley, from Fareham police station, said: 'The victim is very obviously distressed at losing such a large sum of money and we are very keen to trace the woman responsible for taking the bag from the bus.

'Anyone who recognises her should get in touch with police as soon as possible.'

The suspect is described as white, with blonde hair, aged in her mid to late twenties and wearing a white top and blue jeans.

Anyone with information should contact Sarah Oakley at Fareham police station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

People from outside Hampshire should contact 0845 045 45 45.
