The Association of Chief Police Officers has said it will not be reviewing its security arrangements after a man posing as a police officer managed to gain access to this year’s event.

According to reports in the media, the 40-year-old man entered the conference centre in Manchester before being able to wander among senior officers and politicians.

The man – who worked as a security officer – also posed for photos at a display of police vehicles before he was later arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police officer.

However, talking to SecurityOracle.com, an ACPO spokesman said the Association was confident that security arrangements for the conference were adequate.

He pointed out that it was the job of officers and politicians meet with the public. But he stressed that the suspected impersonator had not had access to ministers.

The spokesman added: “We do not have any security concerns as a result of this.

“By the very nature of their job, police officers spend time out and about with the public. As for the fact that this man was photographed near a police vehicle, there were cars parked outside the centre as part of the event.

“There was never any question of him getting through to the Home Secretary who delivered her speech before going on to meet with officers and the media.”
