Eastern Airways is at the forefront of crew security training enhancements after
becoming the first UK airline to introduce convenient web based training.

This latest initiative has been developed by Redline Aviation Security Ltd (RAS)
and Quadratica, which provides efficiency savings for Eastern Airways as its pilots, cabin attendants and ground staff are able to undertake refresher courses online and at the airline’s convenience.

The UK Department for Transport (DfT) requires that crew of all aircraft operators
undergo security refresher training every 13 months, while the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) stipulates that crew also undergo dangerous goods refresher training every 24 months.

Once Redline had completed all the relevant technical specification checks and computer based training tests, the online course was rolled out to Eastern Airways’ crews. Captain Simon Rawcliffe, Eastern Airways’ head of training, said: “We approached Redline to develop an online security training package as there wasn’t a web based offering anywhere. We are very pleased with the web solution and have already had positive feedback from our crews. This will significantly reduce costs as we now don’t have to take crews off flying duties to complete the courses.”

Ian Gregory, Head of Training and Audits at Redline Aviation Security, said: “The DfT and CAA training departments were consulted from the outset to ensure the final product met their criteria. Eastern Airways has played a huge part in assisting us to develop a system that creates an interesting learning experience to benefit its staff. We are now able to take this product forward and adapt it accordingly for other airlines.”

Humberside based Eastern Airways has been operating scheduled flights for over 10 years providing essential links for business communities from 18 airports throughout the UK and Europe.

Redline Aviation Security, located in Doncaster, are rapidly becoming the preferred partner of aviation security training across the country and are the only company in England to hold both the Aviation Security Managers’ course and Recognition of Firearms, Explosives and Incendiaries (RFX) Instructors refresher course.
