BTP Take Delivery of New Mobile Scanner

British Transport Police have taken deliver of a new mobile scanner that is versatile enough to be deployed at railway stations or major public events.

The 3DX-Ray Flatscan Pod, which was demonstrated to PoliceOracle.com at the Modernising Justice Though IT conference in London, enables operators to easily scan baggage while out on deployment.

A 3DX spokesman revealed that the BTP has purchased up to five of the scanners, which provide an impressive three-dimensional picture of bag contents.

The 400kg battery-powered unit is deployed in a cabinet with software running under Microsoft Windows through a notebook PC. It will supply eight hours of use on full charge.

The spokesman added: said: “You can deploy the equipment easily and, for security applications, it is well suited to areas such as railway stations or events such as music festivals.”
