Bouncers Accused Over Tourists Death

Bouncers Accused Over Tourists Death

A British lad who died after being battered by Greek nightclub bouncers was unlawfully killed, a coroner ruled yesterday.

Police on the holiday isle of Zakynthos were slammed for failing to investigate the death of student Matthew Cryer, 17. British cops are now pressing Greek authorities for a proper inquiry.

Matthew, on holiday with pals, died in hospital after collapsing outside a club last July.

Local cops dismissed his death as "drink-related" but a UK post mortem found he died from head injuries. His body was covered in bruises.

The inquest in Chesterfield, Derbys, heard witnesses saw him bleeding from the head after being punched. Two people saw bouncers drag him outside then let him go "with a shove" at the top of a staircase.

Deputy coroner Dr Robert Hunter said it "beggars belief" that Greek police made no effort to find out what caused Matthew's injuries.

After the verdict Matthew's mum Joanne, of Killamarsh, Derbys, said: "We hope this will lead to a proper investigation of his death in Greece, with those responsible brought to justice."
