Reports of a possible blast bomb attack on a police station in Northern Ireland have turned out to be a false alarm, it has been confirmed.

As this story went live, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said that a search of the area around the Brownlow Police Station in Craigavon had concluded.

No explosives were found, although spent fireworks were discovered at the scene.

As reported on SecurityOracle.com, Northern Ireland communities have been on high alert following a car bomb attack at the Strand Road Police Station in Londonderry early this morning. Nobody was injured although the blast caused extensive damage.

A spokeswoman for the PSNI confirmed that the rogue dissident Republican group Olagh na Heireann has claimed responsibility for the attack.

An area from Laurencehill to Assulym Road, and between Lower Strand Road to Harbour Square, was cordoned off today while specialist Ammunition Technical Officers from the Army assisted police in their examination of the crime scene.
