Since the launch of the jointly developed portfolio of training courses 12 months ago, both associations have been working closely to offer further qualification routes for those involved in the design, installation, commissioning and servicing of associated systems. Edexcel was approached in 2009 with a view to gaining BTEC course accreditation as further endorsement of the level and rigour of the already highly acclaimed training programmes.
Sue Tyley, FPA Associate Director, Training said: “I am delighted that the FPA and FSA have been able to work together with Edexcel to increase the range of qualifications that our customers can now achieve. I’m sure these new qualification routes will prove to be even more popular for those looking to develop competencies in the field of fire alarm, detection and emergency lighting systems.”
As a result each of the courses is now underpinned by the recently revised National Occupational Standards in Electronic Systems and have been allocated a number of credits which equate to BTEC qualifications. The credits accumulated can now lead to a BTEC Award or Certificate at Levels 2, 3 or 4, with the certificate title indicating the specific area of achievement from the systems pathways.
Stefan Hay, Head of the FSA adds: “We have found the team at FPA highly professional and dedicated throughout this project. They have worked hard with the FSA, our members and the wider industry to develop a range of qualifications that truly meet the requirements of industry practitioners and we are extremely pleased to be part of adding value to future skills development in the systems industry.”
