Four Bailed After Wimbledon Incident Date: Wednesday, June 30, 2010 |
Spectator quartet must report back in August following alleged breach of public order… Wimbledon security officials were called to the scene of an alleged public order incident before Metropolitan Police Officers made four arrests, it has emerged. According to reports, stewards told a group of spectators to leave the seating area of Court 18 before an incident involving Romanian player Victor Hanescu. Hanescu retired from his third round match and while the reasons why are still not clear, TV footage appears to show the player was unhappy with spectators. He is seen speaking to the umpire before turning and walking from the court. Scotland Yard has confirmed that four individuals arrested for suspected public order offences have been bailed pending further inquiries. No charges have yet been brought against the individuals, who have not been named. A spokesman for the Met told PoliceOracle.com: “I can confirm that officers were called to a terrace at Court 18 after reports of abusive language. “The individuals were taken to a police station and bailed.
