Officers with Avon and Somerset Police are pressing ahead with their investigation after a brutal attack left a security guard needing hospital treatment.

The Force confirmed that a fresh appeal had been made for witnesses following the cash-in-transit robbery at a Shell filling station in Curry Rivel on December 17.

A spokeswoman said that the security guard had been collecting the day’s takings when he was set upon around 17:00 Hours. He was hit over the head and legs and his cashbox was taken. It has not been disclosed how much money was taken.

It is believed the attacker may have used a crowbar. The guard was left on the floor and bleeding following the robbery and needed hospital treatment.

The police spokeswoman stressed: “We have not made any arrests as of yet.

“Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing – while there is not a particularly good description of the offenders we have been examining CCTV footage.”
