G4S Monitoring and Response (‘G4S’) is pleased to announce it has been awarded BS 8484 accreditation for its lone worker (LW) protection services.

The accreditation has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) in response to pressure from the security industry to promote best practice in the field of lone worker protection services.  The standard provides a benchmark against which lone worker services can be measured. G4S Monitoring and Response is one of the first companies to be granted full BS 8484 accreditation.

Available 24 hours a day 365 days a year G4S’s LW facilities meet the requirements of BS 8484. Its state of the art alarm receiving centre (ARC) in Belfast is accredited to BS 5979 Cat 11. In the event of an alarm activation, G4S can locate the LW, listen to live audio and verify the alert, escalating the call as necessary. G4S’s accreditation means that the company meets police requirements to obtain a police response.

The audit also approved the specific functionality of G4S’ lone worker devices, ensuring they have capability to be discreetly activated and deliver an industry leading quality of audio transmission.

Richard Fenton-Jones, Managing Director, G4S Monitoring and Response, said: “We are delighted to have received this accreditation so swiftly and welcome its introduction to ensure the highest standards in the industry.”

“Changing working patterns and related legislation have meant that the protection of lone and at-risk workers is a key focus for employers. This accreditation will ensure a better understanding of the criteria employers should look for when engaging with providers of lone worker protection solutions.”

G4S will be exhibiting at the Lone Worker Safety 2010 conference at Earls Court in London on 11 May. Bob Mayley, National Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor to G4S, will be speaking at the conference about the moral and legal implications of protecting lone workers.

G4S provides a range of devices and monitoring and response services to protect at-risk and lone workers, and vulnerable members of the community.
