Holiday Park Owners Face Probe Over 'Illegal Doormen' Date: Wednesday, September 08, 2010 |
The Security Industry Authority, Avon and Somerset Police, and Sedgemoor District Council launched an intelligence-led evening operation on August 27. Officials checked 27 individuals at seven holiday parks and licensed premises in Burnham and Brean. The SIA says as a result two park owners are believed to have been employing door supervisors to work on their premises without holding the non front line SIA licence required by law. Both are due to be interviewed by police officers. Paul Cartlidge, the SIA's head of investigation, said: "It is important that that holiday park visitors feel safe and our successful operation shows how seriously the SIA and our partners take this. "By working together, we hope that unlicensed operatives realise that they have no place in the area.” Sgt Ian Kennett, of Burnham and Highbridge police, added: “The Burnham Neighbourhood Policing Team have been working with the SIA and other partners to raise standards in licensed premises in line with the licensing objectives - prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance and protection of children from harm. “This helps to make North Sedgemoor a safer place where visitors and local people can enjoy the many entertainment amenities without the fear of violence or disorder."
