British police officers have been supporting a successful Spanish operation aimed at smashing drugs trafficking around Ibiza’s clubs and bars.

According to reports, criminal networks were hit hard during Op Rula, led by the Guardia Civil, during which significant quantities of illegal substances and cash were seized.

Some 13 suspects – including nine British nationals – were arrested during the op, which was carried out by the Guardia Civil’s Organised Crime Team.

A number of properties were searched. Around £50,000 in different currencies and drugs including 4,000g of cocaine, 3,600 ecstacy pills, cannabis and anabolic steroids were seized.

Drugs paraphernalia, including scales, crushing machines and other laboratory equipment, was also discovered along with mobile phones and documentation.

The majority of the ecstacy pills are believed to be a derivative known as Pink Rock Star – similar to those thought to have caused the death of a young British girl and the poisoning of eight other people on the island during the summer.

The Guardia Civil maintained the 13 suspects are members of one of the most active gangs on the island and the main supplier of designer drugs around clubs and bars.

The force said the intelligence-led operation followed the dismantling of other gangs involved in drugs trafficking. The majority of those involved were British and took advantage of the influx of young people during the summer.

“The latest detainees are members of one of the most active gangs on the island, which is the main supplier of cocaine and other designer drugs around the clubs and bars,” a spokesman for the Spanish law enforcement authorities told reporters.

“The most active British drugs trafficking gang in Ibiza has now been dismantled.”
