Motorists stopped robbers escaping with cash stolen from a security guard in Essex by blocking the getaway van.

Detectives in Harlow have praised the drivers who parked their cars in front of the stolen Ford Escort van outside Bush Fair Post Office at 1220 BST.

The robbers were forced to abandon the vehicle and police said the drivers' actions helped them arrest two men. The stolen money has been found.

Police are searching for a third man. The security guard was not injured.

Acting Det Insp Kev Shannon said: "The actions of the drivers in blocking in the van were of great assistance to us in finding and arresting two of the men we believe to be responsible for the robbery."

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
