National Occupational Standards for the Parking Sector Approved Date: Thursday, January 24, 2008 |
Skills for Security, the sector’s Skills and Standards Setting Body, has announced that the new suite of standards for Parking Control Occupations have been approved by the United Kingdom Co-ordinating Group, which act on behalf of the qualification regulators for all four nations. The need for these standards to be reviewed was due to the previous suite of standards not taking into account recent key developments within the industry, including the development of CCTV enforcement qualifications. An expert group of leading sector employers, including UK-wide parking control practitioners was set up in conjunction with the British Parking Association (BPA). The group developed a brand new unit within the suite of NOS and a new pathway for CCTV Enforcement within the qualification, which resulted in an updated and relevant suite of standards that were made available for UK wide consultation via websites, ezines, targeted e-mails and mail shots. Keith Banbury, Chief Executive of the British Parking Association said "The BPA is committed to the development of skills and raising standards in the parking industry. The National Occupational Standards for Parking Control Operations is the foundation for many qualifications and we have worked closely with the industry and Skills for Security to update the Standards and ensure they are fit for purpose." As with all National Occupational Standards developed by Skills for Security, on behalf of the sector, the NOS for Parking Control Occupations will also be freely available on the National Occupational Standards Directory, which can be accessed via: www.ukstandards.org.uk and will be downloadable by the end of the month.
