Op Targets Christmas Thieves Date: Wednesday, December 21, 2011 |
Officers from the Met have been continuing to carry out the new Commissioner’s Total Policing ethos with a pre-Christmas purge of suspected criminals. Nearly 30 arrests were made as the Force initiated a counter-burglary action in the boroughs of Greenwich, Bromley, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. Items seized during the operation included drugs, cash and shotgun ammunition. As part of the crackdown, officers also carried out curfew checks on offenders, stepped up high-visibility patrols and gave businesses and homeowners advice on staying safe. The operation was launched in the wake of burglars stepping up action during the Christmas season, when gifts and valuable items are being stored. “This day of action is aimed at transferring that distress onto burglars and ensuring that they do not ruin the festive fun for others,” the senior officer added. As previously reported on SecurityOracle.com, Met Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe has pledged to hit criminals hard with an adapted version of the Total Policing concept he first introduced while he was Merseyside Chief Constable.
