Skills for Security has announced that the Auchentoshan Distillery, close to Glasgow Airport, will be the venue for their Scottish Conference, to be held on 28th May 2009.

2009 has been declared “Homecoming Scotland” to mark the 250th anniversary of Robbie Burns birth and to celebrate Scotland’s contributions to the world, and Skills for Security is using its conference, entitled ‘Slainte Mhath!’ (a Gaelic toast), to draw attention to the part that the security industry continues to play in Scotland’s success. The conference is also supported by City & Guilds, NOCN, Edexcel and SMTonline.

The morning of the conference will be filled with interesting and informative speakers discussing how the security industry stands at present and the progress being made. Speakers already confirmed include the SIA, Strathclyde Police, Stuart Lowden and Edinburgh-based CameraWatch. Following lunch and a tour of the distillery, the day will conclude with a taster of the new Auchentoshan malt to toast both Robbie Burns and the health of the industry in Scotland.

Skills for Security is now accepting entries for the ‘Contribution to Scottish skills development and training’ award, sponsored by NOCN. The judging panel comprises an independent group of industry experts and the winner will be announced during the conference.
