Una Riley, Group Head of Communications at SectorGuard, has applied for and been successful in being regraded to Fellow of the Security Institute. She was presented with her certificate by Baroness Ruth Henig, Chairman of the Security Industry Authority, at the official launch of the SectorGuard Anglo American Exchange (SAAE) on Thursday 8th May 2008.

Commenting on the Fellowship, Baroness Henig referred to the many projects Una has been involved in with various organisations for the benefit of the security profession. Una joined the Security Institute in its first year, having been a member since September 2000.

The Security Institute has 59 female members, 11 of whom are Fellows.

The Security Institute is the largest professional body in the growing security industry in the UK. It has just under 1000 members, with approx. 100 based outside the UK.

To reach Fellowship, applicants must score a minimum number of points against a published set of criteria, and prove their expertise in work-related and/or academic qualifications over a period of years. Applications for revalidation from existing members go before the Validation Board, before recommendations for regrade are made to the Main Board for approval.

The SectorGuard Anglo American Exchange is a new programme aimed at introducing an exchange of ‘best practice’ between security officers based in the UK and US. Under the scheme, two American officers will be seconded to the UK for a week in July during which their itinerary includes visits to the Palace of Westminster, the Tower of London, Harrods, University College London and University College Hospital. Applications will open next month for the UK officers, who will travel to the US in October, for a similar week of visits.
