The first Security Industry Authority (SIA) endorsed training courses and training qualifications for licensing in Scotland are now available. The courses and qualifications, overseen by two awarding bodies, can now be delivered in Scotland in support of SIA licensing in three sectors:

Security Guard - ASET Level 2 Certificate for Security Guards (Scotland)
Door Supervisor - BIIAB National Certificate for Door Supervisors (Scotland)
Public Space Surveillance CCTV - ASET Level 2 Certificate for CCTV Operatives (public space surveillance) (Scotland).

A fourth qualification, NOCN - Cash and Valuables in Transit, is expected to be available from mid-October. Scottish focused and accredited Close Protection qualifications are expected to be available later this year.

Training and qualifications delivered in England and Wales can be used in support of a national SIA licence. However, with the launch of the new qualifications, training in Scotland will be delivered with a specific focus on Scottish law. Either set of SIA recognised qualifications, whether obtained in England and Wales or Scotland, will be accepted for SIA licensing.

From November 2007, those operating in designated private security industry roles in Scotland will be required to hold an SIA licence to work legally.
