At what point do we say enough is enough and start to arm security officer and give them more powers?

How many more people need to be hurt ?

So unnecessary, all they had to do was ask for the money, no need for violence. Sick people everywhere.

We are one of the few country's in the world where security are not armed, and with things out there getting worse daily I think battons or pepper spray/CS spray should be considered.

The closest Ive been involved with CViT is carrying full till drawers from the shop floor to the saferoom, but I would imagine having just one guard carrying the cash from the van to the shop/whatever is just inviting problems.
If it were me doing the risk assessment for it, especially for areas that have been hit badly in the past, Id have 2 guards going from van to store, one carrying cash, the other carrying a baton, ready to extend if needed, rather than have it just on his/her belt.

Just my thoughts.

We're the only country in the world, where the CVIT crews are not armed in some ways, I think that is a good thing because the probability of the casuality rates increasing in these attacks would get higher as the individuals who carry out these attack would not think twice about shooting.
On the flip side of the coin a good dose of CS gas would be an excellent deterrent as a face full of that would deter anyone.Even the most harden of these individuals who attack the CVIT crews.

Anyone who tries to commit violence against me is making a HUGE deal. It's not acceptable for a male to physically - brutally hurt women. They're more stronger than us ladies. Security guard is really a difficult job. You're risking your life to protect others. THUMBS UP to them!!!

just looking at replies with regards to the subject. Most are saying enough is enough, well ok yes but its been like this for many many many years now. CVIT teams are at risk, period. No offence, but some say about being armoured. A baton, spray etc. Well is that the answer,to me know. The gangs etc who target the CVIT crews are pretty selective and they do there homework, conducting recce's and for periods of weeks and yes months.

An example,I live in a small town in Hampshire, I see a G4S CVIT wagon Parked at the top of town, the guard,a rather large guy and I don't mean tall, walking right the way through town a good few hundred meters away from the CVIT vehicle "ON HIS OWN" carrying his box. I ask WHY. No back up,he has nothing and crews wonder why things go pete tong.

The simular thing happened at a supermarket not to far again, the CVIT crew got smashed and crew members injuired. Not disrespecting any CVIT crew member here, but its time that companies looked at employing more asset protection teams to aid these teams on the ground so to speak. As most will be from a military background and more than likely have CP training and unarmed an armed combat skills. And I'm sorry but this really does need looking at more. And yes I'm aware that asset P teams are used in the larger city area's, but in the smaller less obtrusive area's they are not. At least the CVIT crews then now they have some form of back up if required.
